PRINCESS ANNE, MD- (Nov. 7, 2013) - Peninsula Regional Medical Center and UMES are teaming up with the Maryland Health Connection to deliver flu shots in Somerset County and provide free advice on how to sign up for health care insurance.

The university will be a one-day host site on Thursday, Nov. 14 for PRMC's roving Wagner Wellness Van, which will be stocked with vaccines to inoculate 400 people.

UMES will be the host site for a Nov. 14 flu shot clinicUMES officials are hopeful busy students in the final weeks of the fall semester will take advantage of the walk-up opportunity, but they also are encouraging Somerset County residents to come to campus that day as well.

Shots will be administered from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. near the entrance of the Student Services Center adjacent to UMES Boulevard (Md. Rt. 822). The cost for non-students is $10.

"We're excited about partnering with Peninsula Regional and Maryland Health Connection in making these shots accessible to our community," said Walter Woods, UMES' Outreach and Strategic Initiatives coordinator. "Hopefully, this will contribute in some small way to a healthy winter for those who take advantage of this opportunity."

UMES' health-care partners also plan to conduct information sessions on the new national Affordable Care Act inside the university's Student Services Center.

The sessions in the Allen Singleton Multi-purpose room are at 9 a.m., 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. The Maryland Health Connection is the marketplace for individuals, families and small businesses to compare and enroll in health insurance and determine eligibility for Medicaid and other assistance programs, federal tax credits and cost-sharing reductions.
