PRINCESS ANNE, MD - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is pleased to announce the launch of Discover UMES, www.umes.edu/discover.  The video news web cast is the newest edition to the recently revamped UMES website, www.umes.edu.

Discover UMES is designed to help recruit potential students; share points of pride with current students; connect with alumni, donors and legislators; and market the University to the public at large.  Discover UMES news clips are at your fingertips around the clock.  Anyone with an interest in UMES can easily get a glimpse of what it's like to be part of a campus with such a thriving atmosphere.  Just log on to the website and enjoy.

The Discover UMES team consists of Erika L. Forsythe, producer; Jason Newton, reporter; and W. Vincent Gore, video production director.  Discover UMES serves as an on-campus media and marketing outlet, producing news segments that highlight the wealth of talented students and faculty, unique academic programs, innovative projects, impressive research and cultural events that abound on the UMES campus.  Discover Vincent GoreJason NewtonUMES is also a production facility that creates in-house documentaries and promotional DVDs.

As an added bonus to this venture, the team trains student interns in broadcast news segment production, especially those pursuing a concentration in telecommunications.  Each student receives training in reporting, videography and editing techniques. In addition, they work alongside the Discover UMES staff; and as a capstone experience, students create a piece for their portfolio that complements classroom instruction and enhances their competitiveness in the marketplace.

Discover UMES welcomes students, faculty, staff, alumni and other friends of UMES to submit their story ideas about unique and interesting UMES programs, guests, awards, projects, events, etc. by emailing discoverumes@umes.edu.

To access the web broadcast, look for the Discover UMES logo on the UMES homepage or go directly to www.umes.edu/discover.  The site, which is up and running, is still under construction. So, stay tuned and check back frequently.

This project is made possible by the vision of President Thompson, and the UMES Title III program.
