    Captain (retired) James Bresette, Pharm.D. currently serves as the Associate Dean for Development and External Relations at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore School of Pharmacy and Health Professions where he also holds the rank of Associate Professor. Prior to joining UMES, Captain Bresette developed broad experience and has been recognized for distinguished service with the United States Public Health Service (USPHS) in healthcare system administration, public health, emergency preparedness and disaster response. He has served as a clinical pharmacist with the Indian Health Service and the Federal Bureau of Prisons and in senior management and advisor roles to include deputy director positions with the Indian Health Service and Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services.  He has deployed for and supervised public health emergencies and disaster response events that include suicide clusters in tribal communities; Rabia Balkhi Women’s Hospital, Kabul, Afghanistan; Hurricanes Katrina and Rita; the XIX Olympic Winter Games; Capitol Hill Anthrax Attack and Federal Medical Complex, Fort Devens Correctional Facility. 

    With Drs. Hoai-An Truong and Jill Sellers, he is co-author and co-editor of The Pharmacist in Public Health: Education, Applications and Opportunities, a text comprised of over 50 public health pharmacy leaders and over three dozen peer reviewers published by the American Pharmacists Association.  His research interests include public health harm reduction methods, quality improvement and medicinal cannabis therapeutics.

    Dr. Bresette has been recognized with multiple awards including the Maryland Pharmacist Association’s 2016 Mentor of the Year, the USPHS Allen J. Brands Clinical Pharmacist of the Year, the Department of Justice Federal Law Enforcement Training Center Honor Graduate, the Vice Admiral C. Everett Koop USPHS Outstanding Junior Officer of the Year, the Maryland Pharmacist Association’s Distinguished Young Pharmacist and Mentor of the Year awards and the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experience Preceptor of the Year.  In 2009, he was the first recipient of the Phi Lambda Sigma National Alumnus of the Year Award. 

    Dr. Bresette earned his Doctor of Pharmacy from University of Maryland Baltimore and his Bachelors in Chemistry from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina.  He is an enrolled tribal member of the Red Cliff Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians and is also a veteran of the United States Air Force.
