The current research focus of Dr. Hsia is to investigate the cellular and molecular mechanisms of herpes simplex virus replication during latent infections and reactivation supported by National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Strokes (NINDS). He utilizes tools of molecular biology, cell biology, and biochemistry to study the effect of viral infection in neuronal cells by nuclear hormonal receptors and to measure cellular responses to the viral replication/gene expression. Dr. Hsia is a UMES graduate faculty and now has postdoctoral fellow, Ph.D. students, and undergraduate students.

Dr. Hsia is a member of the following professional organizations: American Society of Virology, American Association of College of Pharmacy, Society of Toxicology, American Association for the Advancement of Science, and Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.
