Small Farm Outreach Initiative to Offer Spring Series


  • PRINCESS ANNE, MD - (February 10, 2015) - A series of informational workshops have been created with the Eastern Shore farmer and/or farming enthusiast in mind.  The Small Farm Spring Workshop Series begins Saturday, March 14. 

    This year’s series comprises three workshops, beginning with a “How to Understand the Soil in Your Field, Pasture and Garden” workshop on March 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Swine Facility classroom at UMES.  Participants will learn about the physical, chemical and biological properties of soils as well as how to maintain soil quality.  [Postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.> A March 28 workshop, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., answers the question, “What Cut Flowers Should You Grow for Your Operation?”  Information about the different varieties of flower crops and the production techniques involved with growing and selling cut flowers will be offered. 
    The 2015 Small Farm Workshop Series is sponsored by the UMES Small Farm Outreach Initiative.  The registration fee for the March 14 and March 28 workshops is $20 per person.  The fee includes all materials as well as lunch.  For the High Tunnel workshop, the registration fee is $10 per person and lunch is not included.
