The School of Pharmacy and Health Professions

  • The School of Pharmacy and Health Professions consists of five academic departments: Kinesiology, Pharmacy, Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant and Rehabilitation Services.  Undergraduate programs include Exercise Science and Rehabilitation Services. Graduate programs include the master’s degree in Physician Assistant studies and Rehabilitation Counseling, the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT), and the Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) as well Pharmaceutical Science (Ph.D.). Students are actively involved with faculty initiatives to improve the health and well-being of the community through health education/promotion. A variety of internship sites for student practical experiences are available.

    Announcement:

    The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), School of Pharmacy and Health Professions will host a APhA Immunization Course for pharmacists interested in receiving the certificate.  The fee for the program is $300 dollars (non-refundable).  

    LIVE SEMINAR TRAINING DATES:

    Class 1 – Live Virtual Session through Google Meets  – 1/13  – 2:00 - 5:00 pm 

    Class 2 – Live Virtual Session through Google Meets  – 1/20 – 2:00 - 5:00 pm 

    Class 3 – In-person at the University Maryland Eastern Shore  – 1/27 – one hour scheduled appointments 

    APhA’s Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery certificate training program is based on national educational standards for immunization training from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.  This practice-based curriculum represents a fusion of science and clinical pharmacy. The program, which emphasizes a health care team approach, seeks to foster the implementation of interventions that will promote disease prevention and public health.  The purpose of this certificate training program is to prepare pharmacists and technicians with comprehensive knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to provide immunization services to patients across the life span. 

    APhA’s Pharmacy-Based Immunization Delivery certificate training program has three components: 
    1. online interactive self-study with assessment
    2. the live seminar with online final assessment
    3. in-person assessment of intramuscular and subcutaneous injection technique.

    A Certificate of Achievement will be awarded to participants who successfully complete all program components, including an evaluation.
