Parents

  • Dear Parent/Guardian:

We take this opportunity to WELCOME you and your student to the University of Maryland Eastern (UMES) family. We extend a special invitation to you to join other parents and guardians who are interested in sharing and supporting their student's educational experience. Parents are an important part of the university community; therefore, we have established the Parents' Association to serve as a catalyst to connect you to UMES as well as keep you informed. We wish to build a network of parents who support our efforts in Students Affairs which are designed to enhance the intellectual, academic, social and spiritual development of your student.

Members of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Parents' Association become a part of the share governance of Student Affairs and through executive meetings collaborate with the Vice President of Student Affairs regarding student life issues. In addition, you build relationships with other parents, aid our fund-raising efforts, assist with special projects, and other activities of the association such as New Student Orientation, recruitment of new students, and Family Weekend.

In an effort to fund each sponsored activity, the Association has voted to assess an annual membership fee of $50.00 per family.

Once your student has completed his/her registration process, including the 'Bill Worksheet', please complete the Parents' Association  application form, and forward it along with your $50.00 membership fee in the form of a check or money order made payable to: University of Maryland Eastern Shore (or UMES) PARENTS' ASSOCIATION and return it to:

    Giving Opportunities

The Division of Student Affairs is charged with meeting the academic, social, personal and sometime emergency needs of all UMES undergraduate students. The support we provide is essential to students achieving their personal and academic dreams. We are committed to decreasing the number of students who are forced to 'stop out' or 'drop out' of the university due to extenuating circumstances before they can obtain their educational goals. Because Student Affairs is the pulse of the UMES experience, we seek every opportunity to partner with constituents who are also willing to invest in the wellbeing, success and development of UMES students.

You can take part in making the UMES experience an extraordinary one for all students by providing your support. Student Affairs welcome gifts of any sizes in support of our students, and please note gifts benefit students through numerous initiatives:

            Student leadership development
           Freshmen transition programs
           Student organization support
          Recruitment & retention programs
Student health services, wellness, and counseling
          Peer education programs
          Greek Leadership Programs
          Student disability resources
          Need-based scholarships
          Facility construction

Whether you prefer giving as part of your annual gift, joining the Parent Association, creating an endowment or through a planned gift, each contribution makes an impact on current and future students at UMES. You can even designate to a particular department or program within Student Affairs.
