Faculty Members

ArumulaDr. Joseph Arumala is a Civil/Structural Engineer and a Professor in the Construction Management Technology Program. He teaches several courses including Structural Analysis and Design and Surveying. He is the Faculty Advisor for the UMES Chapter of Sigma Lambda Chi, the International Honor Society for Construction and is actively involved in Community Development projects and in research into sustainable Alternative Building Materials and Renewable Energy Use in Buildings.

CopelandDr. Leon Copeland is an Emeritus Professor in the Department of Technology. He has an Ed.D. in Occupational and Technical Education from Virginia Tech. Dr. Copeland has a wealth of experience in curriculum development and program administration. He has received grant funding from the National Science Foundation, The Federal Highway Administration, The State Highway Administration and the Maryland State Department of Education. Dr. Copeland teaches graduate and professional education courses. 

Dunn1Dr. Derrek Dunn is currently a tenured Full Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Technology in the School of Business and Technology at University of Maryland at Eastern Shore (UMES). Dr. Dunn has taught college level courses in such areas as Wireless Communication Systems, Computer Networks, Telecommunication Management, Global Positioning Systems, and Optical Systems.

Dr. Dunn received his Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from North Carolina A&T State University. He also received a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, Master of Science in Mathematics and a Doctor of Philosophy in Electrical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University. Dr. Dunn bring nearly 15 years of experience in teaching and research on learners and learning at a distance, and experience in the use of distance education in technology and engineering.

FotouhiDr. Kenny Fotouhi is a Professor in the Electrical Engineering Technology program. He has a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri. Dr. Fotouhi has been actively involved in a joint research project at the University of Maryland College Park developing new semi conductor materials. Dr. Fotouhi teaches courses in circuit analysis, advanced computer networks, logic and switching, and circuit design. 

Dr. Thomas Loveland coordinates the M.Ed. Program in Career and Technology Education for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. He has a Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction: Vocational Education from the University of South Florida.  Dr. Loveland has twice been a Fulbright Foundation Recipient and received the Lockette/Monroe Humanitarian Award from the International Technology and Engineering Educator Association.

Dr. Jeffrey Molavi is an associate professor in the Construction Management Technology program. He has a Ph.D.,  a M.S. degrees in Civil/Construction Engineering and Management, a Master of Architecture, a certificate in Urban Design and Planning all from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Dr. Molavi teaches courses in environmental technologies, construction methods and equipment, site development, green buildings, construction materials, and computer applications in construction.

SalgadoDr. Carlos Salgado is an Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Construction Management Technology program. He has a Ph.D. in Construction Engineering and Management from the University of Maryland College Park, and a M.S. degree in Construction Engineering Ohio State University. Dr. Salgado teaches courses in quantity surveying, estimating planning and scheduling, construction contracts and specifications, project management, and microcomputer applications.

Bijan ShapoorianMr. Bijan Shapoorian is the Interim Program Director for Construction Management Technology program at Shady Grove. Mr. Shapoorian holds a Bachelor’s in Environmental Design, Bachelor’s in Architecture, and Master’s in Regional and City Planning from the University of Oklahoma. He has over twenty years of experience in building design and construction management in residential and light commercial construction in addition to land and neighborhood developments.

YilmazDr. Emin Yilmaz is a Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Technology program. He has a Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Michigan. Dr. Yilmaz has broad and comprehensive knowledge in various engineering and technical disciplines including computers and data acquisition. Dr. Yilmaz is a P.E. (Professional Engineer) and he teaches strength of materials, applied dynamics, design technology, and computer integrated manufacturing.
