The Industrial Hygiene Program at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) establishes institutional requirements for the recognition, evaluation, and control of environmental health hazards that may affect faculty, staff, students, researchers, and visitors. The program is administered by Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) to support healthy and safe working and learning environments across campus operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The program applies to activities and environments where individuals may be exposed to chemical, physical, or biological hazards encountered in laboratories, maintenance activities, shops, and campus facilities. These hazards may include airborne contaminants, asbestos, lead, mold, excessive noise, heat stress, and inadequate ventilation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
EHS conducts exposure assessments and monitoring activities to evaluate potential health hazards and determine appropriate control measures. Program functions include indoor air quality evaluations, asbestos and lead exposure assessments, noise monitoring, heat stress evaluations, mold investigations and remediation guidance, respiratory protection support, workplace health hazard investigations, and exposure monitoring for chemical, biological, and physical agents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
