The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) is committed to providing a safe and healthful work environment for employees, students, visitors, contractors, and subcontractors. Contractors and subcontractors performing work on university property are responsible for conducting their activities in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, codes, and applicable University safety requirements. Contractors are responsible for ensuring that their subcontractors comply with these requirements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Contractors shall provide, inspect, maintain, and ensure the proper use of all personal protective equipment (PPE) necessary to protect their employees from hazards associated with the work being performed. UMES employees are responsible for coordinating contractor access to work areas and shall provide an escort and\/or facilitate access to job sites, as required.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prior to the commencement of any hot work or permit-required confined space entry, contractors shall obtain the appropriate UMES Hot Work Permit or Confined Space Entry Permit from EHS. No hot work or permit-required confined space entry activities may begin until the applicable permit has been issued and all required safety precautions have been verified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Unless otherwise specified by contract, contractors are responsible for maintaining a clean and orderly work area, including waste management. Waste generated by contractors need to be characterized, packaged, labeled, and removed from university property in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
UMES reserves the right to suspend or stop contractor work that presents an imminent danger to personnel, property, or the environment, or that fails to comply with applicable safety requirements.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
