    The University of Maryland Eastern Shore offers an affordable first-rate education. The Office of Student Financial Aid is here to assist you with the costs of your educational investment. Our committed team of professionals works in partnership with you, providing information on available options and assisting you with the financial aid process.

    To be considered for financial aid, students should apply by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) as early in the year as possible, since financial aid is generally awarded on the basis of need and in the order of application. The federal school code for the University of Maryland Eastern Shore is 002106.

    Important Information for Summer 2018

    To assist UMES students in obtaining financial aid funding for the upcoming Summer 2018 semester, the Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) has created a Summer Financial Aid application which is available on our website as well as can be picked up in our office.

    *Please Note: If you have already submitted a Summer Loan Application to the Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) for the upcoming 2018 Summer, you Do Not need to submit the attached form.

    To be considered for Summer 2018 Financial Aid, you must:

    • Be accepted for admission by the university and enrolled in an eligible degree program. Visiting students are not eligible for financial aid.
    • Complete the 2017-2018 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or the Renewal FAFSA. The 2017-2018 FAFSA is available online through June 30, 2018.
    • Complete the Summer Application for Financial Aid and submit it to the Office of Student Financial Aid. The application deadline is July 9, 2018.
    • Verify and finalize any pending items by checking your “To Do List” on your MyUMES “HawkWeb” account.

    Disbursement of Financial Aid & Scholarship Funds

    • Students who are eligible to receive Federal Direct Loan funds for the summer, must be “accepted” offered awards through their MyUMES web portal.  Students can also “decline” awards you do not want to receive.
    • Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) is monitored at the end of each term.  You must be meeting the minimum standards for SAP by the end of any given enrollment period at UNT in order to maintain financial aid eligibility.
    • Disbursement of most financial aid funds to undergraduate students will occur once you establish half-time(6 undergraduate credits) attendance.
    • Disbursement of most financial aid funds to graduate students will occur once you establish half-time (4.5 graduate credits) attendance.
    • State and institutional grant funds will be disbursed after the add/drop period of the session in which you establish half-time attendance.
    • Federal grant payments may be delayed due to required review by OSFA staff. These payments are based on your annual limit and on your summer enrollment status. Please note: some grants have additional requirements and are not guaranteed.
    • Loan funds will be disbursed after the add/drop period of the session in which you establish half-time attendance. You must have completed Entrance Counseling requirements and have a signed Master Promissory Note (MPN) before funds will disburse.
    • Scholarship funds will disburse to your student account once you establish attendance in the credit hours required to receive your award(s). Please review your scholarship award notification and/or agreement to confirm enrollment requirements, and contact the funding department or external agency for additional information.

    Anticipated Aid

    • If the total amount of your Anticipated Aid does not cover your full tuition and fee balance, you must make arrangements for the difference by contacting the Bursar/Comptroller Office in order to prevent your classes from being dropped (regardless of whether your financial aid and scholarship proceeds are available by the payment deadline).
    • Anticipated Aid is: (1) Scholarships you have been awarded, and/or (2) financial aid you have “Accepted” on MyUMES.
    • Anticipated Aid does NOT include Work Study or Parent (PLUS) Loans or Grad PLUS Loans that have been denied due to adverse credit history by the borrower’s lender.
    • The Parent (PLUS) Loan and the Grad PLUS Loan will count toward Anticipated Aid if the Parent (PLUS) Loan borrower or Grad PLUS Loan borrower does not have an adverse credit history and Student Financial Aid and Scholarships has received a credit approval through the Federal Direct Loan Program.

    Important Reminders

    • Register early for summer classes!
    • Grant funding is limited for the summer. Apply early!
    • The later a student submits their FAFSA and/or Summer Application, the later their funds will be available. Students who file a late FAFSA application will be expected to pay their own expenses and wait until their funds arrive to be reimbursed.
    • Check your official UMES email regularly. Official notifications from our office will be sent via email whenever possible.

    The process of applying for aid can seem complicated and time consuming, and we want to make it a pleasant experience for you. To that end, The University of Maryland Eastern Shore is delighted to offer you information about financial assistance.     Spring 2018 SEMESTER REFUNDS
    Disbursement for entire student population is a process in which the Office of Student Financial Aid must review enrollment status for the entire student population (enrollment verification process) before disbursing state, federal, and institution aid. Disbursements for Spring 2018 awarded financial aid are scheduled to commence the week of February 6, 2018 and continue into the week of February 12, 2018.
    University Of Maryland Eastern Shore students are initially provided with an estimated Cost of Attendance (COA) based on full-time enrollment.  The Office of Student Financial Aid awards all aid initially on full-time status.   During add/drop period, students change enrollment status from full-time to part-time or part-time to full-time. It is therefore important to review enrollment status of students so that if any adjustment has to be made on awarded financial aid, this is completed before the aid is disbursed and credit balance issued to student. Enrollment verification is federal regulation and requirement before disbursement.
    *Note: Pharmacy and Physical Therapy students follow a different timeline for the disbursements of financial aid refunds.

    FEDERAL AND INSTITUTIONAL VERIFICATION
    Application review, verification (if selected), and awarding of aid must be completed before aid can be disbursed.
    Authorizing disbursement of aid is contingent on the student’s financial aid file status and enrollment. If a student’s file is incomplete at the time of the scheduled disbursement dates, the Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) WILL NOT authorize any award(s) to disburse until after all financial aid holds/incompletes are cleared.

    Please Note:
    Students selected for federal or institutional verification must submit ALL REQUIRED documentation to complete verification no later than November 17, 2017.  OSFA will cancel all award(s) for students who do not submit all required documentation to complete verification by November 17, 2017.  Students will be required to submit all required documents to have award(s) reinstated.  
    Financial aid award information is posted as “Anticipated Aid” on the student’s account until the Office of Financial Aid verifies the student’s actual enrollment for the semester and then authorizes award(s) to disburse.
