Her research applies computer science to marine population modeling and science communication, building interactive, scenario-based tools. This work supports NOAA’s mission to build climate-resilient fisheries. Post-graduation, Liberty plans to work at the intersection of computer science and fisheries science, developing tools that give scientists and fishing communities a clearer picture of the ecosystems on which they depend.

Research theme: Climate & Ecosystems

NOAA LMRCSC Fellows attain the NOAA Core Competencies detailed in this rubric.

NERTO Project Title: TBD

NOAA Mentor: TBD

Academic Advisors: Dr. Gulnihal Ozbay

NOAA Living Marine Resources Cooperative Science Center
University of Maryland Eastern Shore (Lead Institution)
(410) 651-7870
Award numbers: FY 2021 Award #NA21SEC4810005
Funding Agency: NOAA Educational Partnership Program (EPP/MSI)

NOAA-EPP LMRCSC Masters FellowM.S., Natural ResourcesDelaware State University Liberty Hanzer graduated with a B.S. in Computer Science from Delaware State University in May 2026, where she helped build a real-time data platform that translates complex regulatory information into a dynamic dashboard.
