MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIR

Dear Students,

As Chair of the Department of Rehabilitation at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, I want to personally thank you for your interest in our programs. Whether you are exploring undergraduate or graduate studies, our department is committed to preparing students to become compassionate, skilled professionals who make meaningful contributions to the field of rehabilitation.

🎓 Programs that Empower Your Future

We offer three academic programs designed to address today’s most pressing health, disability, and human service needs:

  • B.S. in Rehabilitation Services
Two flexible tracks—Allied Health and Behavioral Health—allow students to tailor their education toward careers in physical therapy, occupational therapy, counseling, or case management.
  • B.S. in Rehabilitation Psychology
Ideal for students pursuing graduate study in psychology or human services, and for those seeking entry-level positions supporting mental health and behavioral wellness.
  • M.S. in Rehabilitation Counseling
Our 60-credit hour, CACREP-accredited master’s program prepares students for certification and licensure as rehabilitation counselors. Graduates are equipped to work in diverse settings, including state agencies, healthcare systems, schools, nonprofits, and private practice.

📈 A Field of Growing Opportunity

The U.S. Department of Labor projects continued growth in health and rehabilitation-related careers well into the next decade. Graduates of our programs are highly sought after for their training, adaptability, and cultural competence. You’ll be joining a field that is both professionally rewarding and socially impactful.

Our alumni work with:

  • The Department of Veterans Affairs
  • State vocational rehabilitation programs
  • Mental health and substance abuse treatment centers
  • Community-based organizations like Humanim and Hudson Health Services

👐 Additional Opportunities

We are proud to offer courses in American Sign Language (ASL), which introduce students to Deaf culture and prepare them for careers that support communication access and inclusion. ASL proficiency can also serve as a valuable foundation for those pursuing interpreter training or working in diverse service environments.
