The University of Maryland Eastern Shore’s Department of the Built Environment will host the 2026 Roger Blunt Lecture Series on Wednesday, Oct. 7, featuring Piers Dormeyer, chief executive officer of EagleView, a leading provider of aerial imagery and artificial intelligence-driven data analytics. During the lecture, titled “AI and Technology in Construction,” Dormeyer will explore how emerging technologies are transforming the construction industry.

The event will take place at 11 a.m. in the Engineering & Aviation Science Complex (EASC), Room 1088, and is open to UMES students, faculty, staff, industry professionals, and community members. The lecture continues a long-standing tradition of bringing nationally recognized leaders to campus to share insights on innovation, leadership, and the future of the built environment.

The Roger Blunt Lecture Series was established through the generosity of Major General Roger R. Blunt, whose commitment to construction management education and student success led to the creation of the Roger R. Blunt Construction Management Endowed Fund in 2002. The lecture series supports the educational mission of the Department of the Built Environment by connecting students with accomplished leaders from industry and government who are shaping the future of construction and infrastructure.

As CEO of EagleView, Dormeyer leads an organization at the forefront of aerial imagery and AI-powered analytics. During more than a decade with the company, he has helped drive growth and innovation while advancing technologies that enable organizations to make smarter decisions, improve operational performance, and reduce risk. Under his leadership, EagleView has expanded the use of advanced imagery and artificial intelligence in sectors including construction, insurance, solar energy, and government services.

Dormeyer holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the University of Florida and an MBA from the MIT Sloan School of Management. Throughout his career, he has focused on building technology-driven organizations and developing practical solutions to complex industry challenges. His presentation will highlight the increasing role of artificial intelligence, geospatial technologies, and data analytics in transforming the construction industry.

“Artificial intelligence and advanced data technologies are rapidly changing how construction projects are planned, managed, and delivered,” said Dr. Ismail Farajpour, chair of the Department of the Built Environment. “We are excited to welcome Piers Dormeyer to UMES and provide our students and industry partners an opportunity to learn from a leader whose work is helping redefine the future of the construction sector.”

The Roger Blunt Lecture Series is sponsored by the Department of the Built Environment at UMES and serves as a forum for discussing emerging issues, technological innovations, and leadership challenges that affect the construction and infrastructure industries. The annual event reflects the university’s commitment to preparing the next generation of construction professionals through engagement with distinguished industry leaders.
