|I want to personally thank you for your interest in the undergraduate Technology and Engineering (T&E) education program at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES). T&E education is an excellent career! T&E educators teach students to safely use various materials, tools, and machines to develop solutions to technological and engineering problems. As an alumnus of this program, I can assure you that you will be provided ample opportunities and the necessary resources to make a difference in students' lives. I believe you will find UMES to be a vibrant, diverse, and intellectually stimulating place to earn your bachelorís degree. We are located in the beautiful Delmarva region, within a short car ride of the beach and many major cities. Furthermore, UMES provides a great education at a very low cost. Our tuition and fees are among the lowest in the state.
If you choose to enroll in our program you will complete a number of teacher education courses with students from various subject areas, as well as courses focused specifically on T&E content. As early as your sophomore year you will be immersed in middle and high school T&E education classrooms to observe and work with students as part of your teacher education coursework. The classes offered by the Department of Technology have very low student to faculty ratios (often less than the University average of 15:1), allowing you to work directly with your professors. Additionally, the department recently received funding to update its T&E facilities. We are excited about the upcoming changes that will prepare our students to use the most state of the art technologies. It is also important to note that our T&E education program is the only one in Maryland endorsed by the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC), the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE), and the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association (ITEEA).
As a T&E educator you will have a lasting impact on studentsí lives and help educate a more technologically literate society. We are very proud of our T&E education students. Upon graduating they often have multiple job offers from various states. T&E education is a critical shortage area in the United States, and we need quality students like yourself who are interested in T&E to help address this need.
I invite you to read over our program brochure. If you have any questions or are interested in visiting campus to tour our facilities, please do not hesitate to contact me. I hope that you decide to enroll in our T&E education program.
