Mission
The Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management’s mission is to prepare students for leadership and management roles through educational opportunities and community engagement that reflect the global hospitality industry.
The Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management is accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Programs in Hospitality Administration(ACHPA) and offers a bachelor’s degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management with minors in Culinary Arts, Hotel Administration, Restaurant Management, Tourism Management and Hospitality Technology Management. The program is offered on two additional University of Maryland campuses: The Universities at Shady Grove and The University System of Maryland at Hagerstown. The Department also fosters research and service of direct application and benefit to the State of Maryland and the global hospitality industry. In addition, the Department houses one of only 17 accredited PGA Golf Management University Programs in the United States which prepares students for a career in the golf industry. In 2023, the program was approved to develop an online, synchronous/asynchronous degree.

Goals
The goals of the Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management are to:
- Expand Program Quality and Industry Relevance.
- Increase and retain the student market in the department resulting in additional faculty members meeting the growing course focus needs.
- Maintain and expand the industry supported endowment funds and enhancements to provide resources for infrastructure and scholarships.
- Expand Collaborations and industry partnerships which foster faculty and student professional development that the local, state and national levels.
- Engage in service opportunities and identify joint research projects resulting in enhanced instruction refereed publications.
