UMES’ spring 2017 commencement is Friday, May 26. Doors open at 7 a.m. Guests, including children, must have a ticket and should be seated by 9:45 a.m., when doors will close for the duration of the ceremony at the William P. Hytche Athletic Center.

    Seating is on a first-come, first-serve basis.

    Guests arriving after doors close will be redirected to the Student Services Center adjacent to the Hytche center where the ceremony can be viewed in a theatre via closed circuit. Degree candidates and the platform party enter the arena at 10 a.m. for the time-honored processional.

    In consideration of all attendees, especially our graduates, we ask that cellular telephones and other electronic messaging devices be turned off during commencement exercises. Noise-making devices, banners and posters are prohibited, as are all objects that would detract from the formality and decorum of the event.

    Limited seating will be available for people with disabilities or in need of assisted seating. No more than one additional guest may be seated in the area reserved for people with disabilities. Candidates with guests needing assisted seating should call the Office of Student Affairs at (410) 651-3446.

    For graduation candidates who have more guests than tickets, several viewing options are available.  

    Student Service Center Theatre - The theatre in the Student Service Center (SSC), will serve as the overflow site for those who do not have tickets, or for those who arrive after the doors to the Hytche Center have closed at the start of the commencement exercises. 

    Streaming – Commencement exercises will be streamed live on the UMES Website . This is a great options for those who cannot travel. 

    Campus TV - Campus cable television channel 4-1 will show a live video feed, and can be viewed on any campus television.  

    Graduating seniors  

    Do you need to buy commencement regalia (cap and gown)?

    • A limited supply of commencement regalia is still available in the campus bookstore.
    • Order commencement regalia online; ensure timely delivery by ordering early.
