Chemical waste management covers the safe handling, storage, accumulation, and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous chemical waste ensuring compliance with applicable federal and state regulations. All personnel generating chemical waste are responsible for proper identification, segregation, labeling, and timely transfer of waste to designated accumulation areas to minimize risks to human health, laboratory personnel, the environment, and facility infrastructure. Waste must never be disposed of via drains or general trash unless explicitly approved by EHS.
The classification and management structure outlined in the tables below is based on regulatory principles established under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), which serves as the governing framework for hazardous waste identification and accumulation practices.
