DVM Program
Curriculum
Each of the six pre-clinical semesters below lists its academic focus, instructional dates, and full course listing with credit hours.
Summer 2027 (Year 1)
Semester 1 orients incoming students to the veterinary profession and builds the foundational vocabulary of medicine. Students are introduced to animal husbandry, welfare, and behavior across species; foundational medical science, pharmacology, pathology, and diagnostic imaging concepts; and the One Health framework that runs throughout the curriculum. Clinical Skills I introduces safe animal handling and the first elements of the physical exam, while Personal & Professional Skills I begins the deliberate, four-semester arc of communication and professional-identity development.

Fall 2027 (Year 1)
Semester 2 opens the first of two paired “Healthy Animals” courses, a 10-credit, systems-based sequence integrating gross and microscopic anatomy with physiology across the integumentary, musculoskeletal, nervous, sensory, cardiovascular, respiratory, hematologic, and lymphatic systems. Systemic and Clinical Pathology I add the disease correlate to each system, while One Health II introduces epidemiology and biostatistics and Veterinary Immunology covers protective and aberrant immune responses. Clinical Skills II and Clinical Reasoning I begin applying this growing knowledge base to hands-on exams and small-group case analysis.

Veterinary Parasitology and Radiographic Interpretation round out the diagnostic foundation. Evidence-Based Veterinary Medicine and Research II moves students from classroom research methods into a mentored, faculty-guided research project, and Clinical Skills III advances students into suturing, phlebotomy, and injection technique on models and live animals.

Summer 2028 (Year 2)
Semester 4 opens Year 2 and shifts the curriculum toward disease agents and the earliest surgical training. Veterinary Virology and Bacteriology & Mycology cover infectious disease, One Health III examines zoonotic and transboundary disease, and Toxicology, Nutrition, and Veterinary Dentistry add key clinical disciplines. Introduction to Surgery introduces aseptic technique and perioperative care ahead of species-specific surgery courses, and students select their first pre-clinical elective.
